Ad Astra - Isle of Arran

EATING OUT

EATING OUT IN WHITING BAY

We are lucky enough to have a growing number of eateries all within walking distance of Ad Astra.

On the little parade of shops at the bottom of the hill so just two or three minutes’ walk away we have Simply Thai which is both an eat in and takeaway restaurant and just a couple of hundred metres further away we are about to have a brand-new eatery (opening at the end of May 2026) called Salt and Thistle. Both of these back directly onto the beach.

Walk further along the road past the putting green and art gallery for a further seven or eight minutes and you will find The Shurig which is both a Pub/bar and restaurant.

While talking about eating out we must just give a plug to our local independent food store and coffee shop The Bay Stores. Here you can get fresh vegetables, bread and many locally produced food and other provisions including wines and beers. So, pop in, have a coffee and try some of their foods.

Some of our favourite places to eat and Drink further afield

The Douglas, Brodick

Set in an elegant yet welcoming space overlooking Brodick Bay, the Bistro offers a menu inspired by the island and the surrounding Ayrshire coast. Fresh seafood, locally sourced beef and lamb, seasonal ingredients and produce from Arran's renowned artisan suppliers all feature prominently, creating dishes that celebrate the flavours of the island with a modern touch.

The atmosphere is warm and understated, making it equally suited to a leisurely lunch, a romantic dinner or a special occasion. Alongside the food, guests can enjoy an excellent selection of Arran whiskies, local gins and carefully chosen wines, all served with the attentive hospitality for which The Douglas has become well known.

Hamiltons@The Auchrannie, Brodick

Our favourite restaurant at the Auchrannie is Hamiltons. Enjoy a glass of wine, a Cocktail or beer joined with one of their delicious sharing platters.  [ADD MOREE?]

This really is a little slice of heaven on Earth. Top tip, you can take a bus from Ad Astra which will drop you off at the Ferry Terminal and you can take the Fisherman's Walk (approx 2 km) over the the Beach Club. Don't Miss the last Bus!!!

The Drift Inn, Lamlash

In the heart of Lamlash with views across the bay to Holy Isle is the Drift Inn. The Drift offers a seafood and Grill menu which never disappoints. Depending on what the fisherman's Brough in, they offer local langoustine, scallops and mussels - but there is something for everyone (a firm family favourite is their Macaroni Cheese, which is not for the faint hearted!) Keep your eyes open for seals (including our own seal friend ‘Clyde’ Jnr, sculpted from local granite), dolphins and the occasional basking shark. There are tables and benches for you to take it all in.
